Little Eiffel stands in the archway
A place is more than the sum of its parts.. the lovely parts + the ugly, busy parts= not falling for Paris.
Maybe it’s because Sevilla already has my heart….

I have a lot of homework today. That is why I am writing on the internet. I also just finished the most delicious coffeee ever. Un Cafe bonbon at my lil styler cafe down the street. Thick layer of condensed milk, thicker layer of espresso, topped with whipped cream.. this discovery could prove to be trouble. The girl making the coffee even invited me to their special party on sat! ”...
People take pictures of each other
I don’t write. I don’t feel like I’m away any more. I feel like I’m here. Maybe when I get back to Calgary I’ll feel like that’s away and I’ll write about all my strange Calgary experiences. Probably not though. In Calgary I don`t have the experience of walking home from school and seeing the enormous Catedral or the fat men drinking beer and roasting...

bougie soho
I wanted to write ‘boo’ in the title cause it’s halloween, but this keyboard is all switched up and I don’t know how to make a hyphen. My computer literacy skills really leave something to be desired.
We are in beautfiul Granada, a town by the Sierra Nevada mountain range that is cold compared to Sevilla. Compared to Calgary its warm, but I am freezing. Also, remarkably,...

I’ll admit it.. I skipped two classes yesterday. In fact, I got up so late that I ran out of my house without checking the weather. This wouldn’t normally be a problem, because every single other day has been sunny, clear skies and at least 30 degrees. Outside it was windy and gray. I got to school and sat down in my art history class. My prof handed out our exams. As I’m writing...
you should shine a light on
On thursday night Lauren and I went out for dinner at 11:30. We were trying to find a cute bar we went to 2 months ago, and we ended up just walking around in a circle. Instead we ate at a place called La Giganta that served us crisp white wine and tangy olives. We were expecting a quiet night, possibly just dinner and a drink.
6.5 hours later, we found ourselves walking home in the dark early...
coeur mechante
I finally know what its like to go to an United States university. Everyone in my program at school is american, so I don’t know why I was suprised to find myself on a bus to Portugal with 40 americans. There are definitely some differences between americans and canadians, at least as far as 20yr old americans in university. I really don’t feel comfortable speaking for the rest of the...
Hemingway got nuthin on me
The last bullfight in Sevilla was today. At 430 after drinking two coffees with Katie and Chelsea, we saw the poster advertising the bullfight, and 45 minutes later, dripping in sweat, contraband vino in hand, I found myself 2nd row from the bullring.
The three bullfighters were respectively 19, 20, and 21. The 4th fight we saw the 20 year old get lifted about by the bleeding bull and thrown to...

I'll tell you what I want
Two nights ago Chelsea, Katie, Lauren and I drank some (bottles) of white wine in Alameda. It was a beautiful night, this is probably the reason we drank a little more than necessary on a sunday. On our walk home, due to the beautiful nature of the evening, as well as the extra wine, we were perhaps a little louder than absolutely necessary. A small group of Spanish men said as we passed them in...
holy.
I was just reading John Updike’s “Rabbit, Run” and getting near the end. It is depressing. I was sitting in my room feeling like I was swimming in the sadness of the book and then I jumped up and ran out of my room. I didn’t tell Lauren, I just left. I ran into the streets and decided to go down a street I had never been. As I was walking I heard the sound of voices and...
We are the night
I have been drinking cafe con leches daily but this morning I was in a rush and wanted a coffee to go. I went to Starbucks. The latte compared to the wonderfully strong cafe con leches made me feel like I was walking around, an adult, drinking warm milk. I’ve learned my lesson.
We went to the beach on saturday, it was blues skies and napping friends. I managed to only burn only random...

freckles in a dangerous time.
I left my cool apartment today. It was so hot outside that it made all the little hairs on my body stand up. I had a cafe con leche at Campana, the famed pastry shop. It was incredibly sweet and delicious. Lauren and I tried to walk down to the river but after being on the concrete in the blazing sun for 20 minutes we went to the movies instead.
There is a train station right by the river with...
Vampire laws apply.
Last night, Lauren and I went out with some very nice Americans. They told us something incredibly significant to our safety and well-being. When you are in Spain, if you invite a man into your house and he rapes you, he is not at fault and cannot be held accountable. Similarily, vampires must receive a formal invitation before entering your residence. I already had like 4 different guys in my...
ease of assimilation
A couple things about accents.
If someone tells you a thing will happen la tardes… they aren’t calling you la-tarded.
If someone lives with their ghetto-friend, they aren’t referring to the disparity between their and another’s socio-economic class, they are actually saying “girlfriend”.
More to come, I’m sure of it.

Paying for Internet
I am sweating in the back of a hotel on one of Sevilla´s tiny, cobblestone streets. Lauren and I moved into our apt last night. The ac was broken and it was 40 degrees, Instead of sleeping we watched It´s always sunny in Philadelphia until 5 in the morning. I stayed up and finished 100 years of solitude, which is a fucked up, pretty book.
Gonna go back to the sweat lodge I call an apt and go out...
no le entiendo...
I don’t speak spanish. Like, even less spanish then I thought I could speak. This has led me to have a refrain. It is “no se” with my hands raised, palms up. Luckily, Lebbert and I have a realtor that speaks english and with his help we have found an apt, in el centro of sevilla! Now open to couch surfing business.

Morning in Sevilla
It is technically afternoon because it is 1:30, but Lauren and I just woke up. I feel exhausted and hesitant to go outside because it’s 35 degrees and sunny. Our hotel has free wifi and air conditioning so its a little like leaving the womb.
Every night so far dreamt of Calgary. I’m sure it’ll be that way until I come home, where I’ll dream of Spain.

I am a human who will write.
I am going to Spain. So I will tell myself and others about it. Maybe show some photos.
